Is Minecraft Dungeons II cross-platform?
Which platforms play together, how to join a friend on another one, and how your hero follows you.
Short answerYes, Minecraft Dungeons II has full crossplay between PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Switch and Switch 2. Up to four players share a party through an eight-character code or matchmaking, and linking each platform to one Microsoft account carries the same hero everywhere.

PC covers Steam and the Xbox app. Switch and Switch 2 are separate purchases that still share one online hero.
How to play with a friend on another platform
- Create an online hero. A hero made offline can never join online play.
- Open the lobby and share your eight-character party code.
- Your friend enters the code on their platform and joins your lobby, or the game already running.
- No code? Matchmaking fills empty spots with players from every platform.
Crossplay covers every platform the game launched on. Mojang's technical director Stefan Annell describes the goal as "one-click crossplay": a party code of eight letters and numbers lets friends join your lobby or a game already under way, whichever platform anyone is on.
Cross-progression: take your hero to another platform
Cross-progression is confirmed. "We store hero data online in our backend, so your progression isn't tied to one specific device," said Stefan Annell. Link each platform account to the same Microsoft account and the same hero loads on the new platform.
Where the platform allows it, you can also sign in with your own account on a friend's console, play your hero there, then pick up at home where you left off.
Switch and Switch 2 are sold as separate products, but an online hero still carries between them through the same Microsoft account.
Rules that catch people out
- !An offline hero never crosses over
Only online heroes cross over. A hero created in offline mode stays offline for good: it cannot join online sessions or be converted, even by editing the save, so it cannot follow you to another platform either.
- $Consoles need their online subscription
Online play on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch requires the platform's own online subscription. PC needs none.
- ≡Dedicated servers, so no platform hosts
Online play runs on dedicated servers, picked for the party by each player's ping, rather than on the party leader's machine, so no platform hosts the others.
Matchmaking across platforms
Matchmaking is cross-platform too. It weighs core quest progress, region and power level, and can drop you into a session already in progress to keep queues short.
